The Project – Meeting design for Strategic Marketing Communications
Meeting design strategic marketing communications – A national Sun Oil sales meeting at the Moscone Center in San Francisco to show the leading automotive gasoline distributors and largest station owners what the new branded look of gas station architecture/shopping complex design was to be for the coming decade across the country.
Mission
Show the leading automotive gasoline distributors and largest station owners what the new branded look of gas station architecture/shopping complex design was to be for the coming decade across the country.Designscape took the 2,000 audience attendees on a dawn-to-dusk, cross-country visual tour shot from the point of view of the audience driving the car itself.
Design Solution
We created a stylized 60-foot wide dashboard and windshield (projection screen) from ‘57 Cadillac Eldorado complete with a working light-up dashboard, directional signal stalks that blinked as the car turned corners, and dashboard radio that turned on and off.
The steering wheel alone was 8 feet in diameter of cold-rolled steel. In one side view mirror, two actors, doing the chatter and patter sat at a Lucite desk, as the car went from city to city, their accents and dialects changed according to their location. The other side view mirror had an I-MAG screen for the speaker. The set painted with automotive lacquer and the colors went tutti-frutti when it was lit.
